General Information

Afya Mkopo is a working capital loan product offered by Medical Credit Fund II Tanzania Limited (MCF) and Vodacom Tanzania Ltd designed to provide financing to businesses in the health sector in Tanzania. It is a fast, flexible, and collateral-free loan that helps businesses finance working capital needs. The loan is based on your business’s Lipa Na M-Pesa revenues and repayments are automated.

To be eligible, a business shall:

  • Operate in the health sector. This includes healthcare facilities, health and specialist care providers, and businesses serving the healthcare sector
  • Have an active Vodacom M-Pesa Lipa number, and provide at least 3 months of M-Pesa statements
  • Be operating for a minimum of 6 months and hold the necessary licenses from the relevant regulatory authorities.

Loan amounts range from from TZS 200,000 to TZS 100,000,000, depending on your average Lipa Na M-Pesa revenues over the past three months.

Terms and pricing

Afya Mkopo is provided at a competitive interest rate from as low as 3% per month, calculated daily on your reducing outstanding balance. This means you only pay interest on your outstanding balance, ensuring that interest charges decrease as you make repayments.

  • An origination fee of 3%
  • VAT of 18% charged on the origination fee

The fee and applicable taxes are automatically deducted from your loan disbursement at the start of the loan

Application process

To ensure a smooth onboarding process, please make sure you have this information readily available. Once you submit your application, a sales representative or business advisor will review and contact you to complete the process.

To apply for Afya Mkopo, you'll need to provide the following documentation:

1. Identification Documents: copies of national ID cards or passports for all directors and shareholders

2. Business Registration Documents

3. Valid Business License: current licenses or permits required to operate your business

4. Tax Identification Number (TIN)

5. Photo of the facility

6. Mobile Money Statements (past 3 months or more)

MCF reserves the right to request for additional documentation. Ensuring all these documents are accurate and up-to-date will help speed up the application process.

The loan amount is based on your average monthly M-Pesa revenues. Your historic average revenues will determine the maximum loan amount. It is therefore important that your till is active and remains active throughout the life of the loan.

No, a Lipa Na M-Pesa number is required. If you do not have one yet, please contact Vodacom Customer Service.

Once the your application is approved, the loan is typically disbursed to you via mobile money within a week.

No, Afya Mkopo loans do not require conventional collateral. Your mobile revenue acts as security. For larger loan amounts, additional security, such as personal guarantees, may be required.

Repayment & Loan Management

Loan repayments are automated and deducted as a percentage from each incoming M-Pesa transaction until the loan is fully repaid. You can choose the repayment percentage, which ranges from 33% to 100% and is defaulted at 33%. The loan term typically lasts between 3 to 6 months.
